Purchasing New Construction in Halifax: the good, bad and the ugly
New Construction ... NEVER ... well MAYBE ..... YES!
Truth be told I was a buyer myself this past summer. Looking at homes, becoming frustrated with the pricing.. I was every agent's nightmare. I would have fired me. Being as particular as my partner and I are, we decided we were better off to purchase a new construction. While there are many upsides, does it come with downfalls.... well nothing is perfect.
Since Covid struck, it has been difficult for builders to meet deadlines due to minimal staffing. Supplies are scarce and prices are gone through the roof. Is buying new construction still safe? I would say yes. However it is buyer beware.
As a consumer you should educate yourself on your builder. Is your price set in stone? Will your move in date be on time? If your budget is for example $500k, should you look at a new build that is $400k? What happens when your build is delayed? Will you still be able to obtain financing?
Today I have one of the most diverse panels yet:
Ben Young: the Senior VP of Southwest Properties.
Keir Hood: the Operations Manager of Cresco.
James Higgs: Owner of Parachute Realty and sales rep for Bowers Construction
Tamara Barker: Owner of Whitestone Developments and local agent for Sutton
